Angus Lennie (born 18 April 1930 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish actor best known for his film appearance as Steve McQueen's friend Archibald Ives in the 1963 film The Great Escape. He was also known for being in the television soap opera Crossroads.

Early life

He was brought up in Glasgow and attended Eastbank Academy in the city. He attended the 94th Glasgow (1st Shettleston) Company of the Boys' Brigade. He then appeared in repertory theatres in various towns in England and Scotland.

Television

He remains best known for his long running role as cook Shughie McFee in the soap opera Crossroads, which he played from 1974 to 1981. His other TV credits include: The Saint, Doctor Who (in the serials The Ice Warriors and Terror of the Zygons), The Borderers, Z Cars, Rumpole of the Bailey, Lovejoy, The Onedin Line, All Night Long, Keeping Up Appearances and Monarch of the Glen.

Film

His film appearances include: 633 Squadron, Tunes of Glory, Oh! What a Lovely War and a significant role in The Great Escape as the diminutive serial escaper Flying Officer Archibald Ives (nicknamed The Mole).

Stage

He has appeared in many stage productions including A Midsummer Night's Dream and pantomimes.
